The Oreck AT1PKT filters job is trap and eliminate organic odors, and volatile organic compounds as the air passes through the filter.   Over time the filter gradually deteriorates and the effectiveness of capturing these harmful gases and odors diminishes.     In order to keep your homes air free of VOC's and odors, it's recommended to replace this filter once every 12 months or as needed.

It's important to NEVER wash this filter, as doing so will ruin the filter completely, and may cause damage to your air purifier.
